Amazon Extends Lord of the Rings Series for Season 2

While the first season still is at the stage of pre-production.

Filming of the first season starts in 2020 in New Zealand. In connection with the early announcement of an extension for the second season, after the completion of work on the first two episodes, the team will leave for a break.

So screenwriters and producers will be able to better assess the work done and make the necessary changes. In addition, Deadline admits that while working on the first season, the team can take several frames for the second, or even deal with them in parallel. This, according to reporters, is standard practice for TV shows on direct order.

Deadline suggests that the main roles will be played by Will Poulter (Black Mirror: Brandashmyg), Markell Caven (Crying) and Max Boldry (The Years), but Amazon has not yet confirmed the final cast.

The show runners and executive producers are John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, and Spaniard Juan Antonio Bayona, who directed Jurassic World 2, is in the director’s chair.

The events of the series will unfold in Middle-earth. The total budget of the show is about a billion dollars.

Amazon acquired television rights to The Lord of the Rings in 2017. The agreement includes not only the shooting of several seasons of the series (five is planned), but also potential spin-offs.

The show was shown will be in the service Amazon Prime Video, which is available in more than 240 countries around the world (including Russia).
