The premiere of the ninth season, “Walking” showed the lowest ratings in the history of the show

The audience itself was almost two times less than in 2017.

The rating of the first episode in the category from 18 to 49 years was 2.5. This is the lowest result in the entire history of the show from AMC, which broke the record of the pilot episode in 2010 – 2.7.

Total premiere October 7, according to research firm Nielsen, watched 6.1 million people. This is the worst figure since the middle of the second season, which is almost 50% lower than the number of spectators of the first series of the eighth season – 11.4 million people watched it in 2017, and the average rating was 5.0.

The ninth season is positioned as a new beginning, and to emphasize this, the creators for the first time in the history of the show changed the style of the splash screen.

The season will be the last for Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes. However, he will not leave the series for good – in 2019, the actor will act as a director of one of the episodes.
